What is Search Engine Optimization?

by

The purpose of search engine optimization (commonly known as SEO) is really quite simple. It’s the process of making your Website attractive to search engines so that they rank you high in their free results.

How Does Search Engine Optimization Work?

Every search engine utilizes a formula, or an algorithm, to determine where sites should rank in their results. Optimizing a Website requires knowing as much about those algorithms as possible, and then making sure that every page on the Website is attractive to the search engine spiders by putting in things that the spiders like to see. At Sebo, we often call these things “spider food“.

If the Web pages on your site have the correct amounts and the correct types of spider food, the spiders will like your site, and therefore rank the site well.

How Can I Benefit from Search Engine Optimization?

The benefit of effective search engine optimization is that a well-optimized Website gets better rankings, and therefore is more visible, and therefore the site gets more visitors.

The other huge benefit of search engine optimization is that the traffic that get generated from search engine optimization is effectively free. If a site gets good rankings, and someone clicks on the link and visits the site, the Website didn’t have to pay for that click.
