Through his own use of truck boxes and a lifetime of fishing, hunting and working in construction, West Desert’s founder, Dale Cheney, recognized the need for a box that could be more than a storage bin in the back of a pickup. In 1993, Dale began development of the first prototypes of the padded lid tray and obtained the first patent on that idea in 1995.

Additional refinements and renditions were developed over the years, also secured by patents, and the latest Alumiknox™ design was recently awarded another patent on the hinge and closure systems.

Alumiknox creators were coming close to finishing the development of their patented truck boxes when they realized it was time to set-up some sales channels.
